Zegna’s Memorie Fragrances Turn Italian Alpine Memories Into Six Scents

Six refillable fragrances draw on Zegna’s Trivero roots, from ink and oud to pine and lavender. Each Eau de Parfum is $350.

Zegna’s Memorie Fragrances Turn Italian Alpine Memories Into Six Scents

Zegna’s new fragrance collection begins with a place. In the Italian Alps, Oasi Zegna’s forests and mountain roads provide the setting for six Eau de Parfum scents shaped around the company’s origins in Trivero. Called Memorie—Italian for “memory”—the collection marks Zegna’s first fragrance launch in nearly 20 years, with each scent built to bring a particular moment or corner of the brand’s history to mind.

Il Calamaio Eau De Parfum

The backstory is unusually tangible. Ermenegildo Zegna, who grew up in Trivero and founded the textile business and menswear label that bear his name, planted nearly 500,000 trees across 100 square kilometers in the 1930s. The area, now a nature preserve called Oasi Zegna, gives the fragrances their sense of place: forests, mills, a road through the mountains and the family home all become part of the collection’s reference points.

Il Lanificio Eau De Parfum

Fragrance as a personal memory

Zegna developed Memorie with beauty partnerships agency Give Back Beauty and perfumers Dominique Ropion, Fabrice Pellegrin and Quentin Bisch. The six scents move between familiar and more unusual accords, but the organizing idea isn’t a set of fragrance families. It’s storytelling. One fragrance recalls a morning newspaper and its ink; another imagines the woolen mills; a final scent draws on the warmth of an evening drink by the fire.

A Trivero Eau De Parfum

“Fragrances are probably the first moment anyone in the world can feel the brand, very quickly and with a lot of emotion,” says Alessandro Sartori, Zegna’s longtime artistic director. He says six scents were the minimum needed to tell the story. His hope is that people choose the fragrance that brings up something personal for them, connecting scent with emotion and memory.

Il Sottobosco Eau De Parfum

That approach has a familiar sensory hook: a smell can call up a place or a moment with striking immediacy. Memorie starts with specific details from Ermenegildo Zegna’s life, then leaves room for the wearer’s associations to take over. The collection’s visual storytelling follows the same idea, with actor Mads Mikkelsen moving through scenes inspired by the fragrances: reading a newspaper in Zegna’s original office, driving along Panoramica Zegna and relaxing in a worn club chair with a glass of ratafia. The creative work was written by Roman Coppola and directed by Boramy Viguier.

Six scents, from ink to pine

At $350 each, the six fragrances make a considered wardrobe of scent, with distinct moods and levels of familiarity. They’re also refillable. Here’s how their ingredients and inspirations come together.

Saga Del Piemonte Eau De Parfum

Il Calamaio is Dominique Ropion’s most unconventional composition in the lineup. An ink accord meets rose absolute and oud, evoking Ermenegildo Zegna’s morning newspaper ritual. The contrast is the point: rich oud and a heady floral note sit against the sharper impression of ink. The product description pairs Turkish rose, oud and an inkwell accord. It’s a choice for someone drawn to a more unusual, atmospheric fragrance rather than an easy fresh start. Zegna Il Calamaio Eau De Parfum, $350.

Il Lanificio, created by Fabrice Pellegrin, takes its cue from Zegna’s woolen mills. A suede accord, sweet vanilla and earthy sandalwood suggest the texture and warmth of the mill setting. The scent is described as autumnal from its opening through its drydown, with the vanilla developing into suede and sandalwood. It has a soft, warm profile for anyone who likes sweetness grounded by wood and a skin-like suede impression. Zegna Il Lanificio Eau De Parfum, $350.

A Trivero, by Quentin Bisch, is the most approachable of the six and is described as the collection’s most popular. Lavender, rose and myrrh form a fresh, light fougère accord, with enough depth to carry from daytime into the evening. That balance makes it a natural everyday option for someone who wants a versatile scent without giving up character. Zegna A Trivero Eau De Parfum, $350.

Il Sottobosco, another Pellegrin creation, turns toward the forest floor. Pink pepper brings spice to carrot seed and patchouli, with the wider inspiration drawn from wet leaves, pine and earth. It’s the collection’s most outdoorsy idea: green and grounded, with a lively edge from the pepper. The product description likewise highlights earthy carrot seed and patchouli against pink pepper. Zegna Il Sottobosco Eau De Parfum, $350.

La Panoramica, by Ropion, is named for the road running through Oasi Zegna. This brighter fougère combines pine, lavender and vetiver, lending it a fresh, comforting character. Pine gives the composition its connection to the surrounding landscape, while lavender and vetiver keep it in familiar aromatic territory. It’s a strong pick for someone who wants a crisp scent with a little more warmth than a straightforward fresh fragrance. Zegna La Panoramica Eau De Parfum, $350.

Saga Del Piemonte, Pellegrin’s second fragrance for the collection, imagines an evening at Villa Zegna after a day’s work. Smoky cedarwood suggests a fireplace; coffee accord and ratafia recall the drink served at the end of the day. Woodsy, sweet and faintly smoky, it’s the richest and boldest-feeling option here, with a profile that suits a cool evening. Zegna Saga Del Piemonte Eau De Parfum, $350.

A place to make your own

The strongest case for Memorie is the way it pairs precise references with room for personal interpretation. A fragrance tied to a newspaper, a mill or a forest can still summon a different memory for the person wearing it. That’s the collection’s most interesting proposition: Zegna supplies the setting, while the scent becomes part of the wearer’s own story.

The Memorie fragrances are available at selected Zegna retail locations and on zegna.com.
