LX Hausys Sustainability Report Details Carbon Cuts and Recycled Materials
LX Hausys reports lower emissions across its Korean sites and highlights bio-based coatings, recycled PET films and recyclable release paper.

LX Hausys’s latest sustainability report links emissions management with changes to the materials inside its products. Its 2026 report, published by parent company LX Hausys Co., Ltd., mainly covers 2025 performance, with selected updates from the first half of 2026. For readers tracking lower-impact materials, the product details are especially tangible: a plant-derived coating for PET furniture film, furniture films made from recycled bottles, and a clay-based release paper designed to be recyclable after use.
The company says it is continuing its 2050 Carbon Neutrality Roadmap. Across 15 Korean business sites in its greenhouse gas inventory, emissions fell 9.5% year over year in 2025. LX Hausys also incorporated Safety and Environment key performance indicators into business division performance measures that year. The change ties environmental management to how divisions are assessed, while the reported emissions figure gives a specific measure of progress across the included sites.
Material choices shape the product story
One of the report’s newer product examples is Bio SMR Furniture Film, launched in April 2026. It combines a plant-derived bio-carbon coating with PET film and uses the company’s SMR, or SuperMatte Resist, matte coating technology. That pairing brings a bio-based input into a decorative surface material while retaining the matte finish associated with the product’s coating approach. The report says Beta Analytic verified the product as containing bio-based carbon, and that it passed a U.S. Food and Drug Administration food-contact safety assessment.
Those details help clarify what the product’s bio-based claim refers to: the coating uses plant-derived carbon. The source does not state what proportion of the finished film is bio-based, so the verification should be understood within that stated scope. For product selection, the distinction between a bio-based component and a fully bio-based product matters; the report describes the former.
Recycled PET is another thread in the company’s materials work. LX Hausys says it has supplied furniture films made from recycled PET bottles to markets including Europe and North America since developing the material in 2018. A 2025 application at a large apartment complex in Busan, South Korea, is expected to have the effect of recycling approximately 1.2 million waste PET bottles. That figure describes the expected effect of the application, rather than a general per-product recycling rate.
The company also points to a change in the material behind LX Z:IN Interior Film Flame-retardant. In June 2025, the product received Korea Eco-Label Certification after LX Hausys replaced a polyethylene coating on its release paper with a clay-based material. According to the report, that adjustment allows the paper to be recycled after use. It’s a practical design detail: the surface film may draw attention, but the backing material can affect how the product is handled at the end of its use.
U.S. production and broader reporting
LX Hausys America operates manufacturing facilities in Adairsville, Georgia, producing VIATERA quartz, HIMACS solid surface materials and automotive fabrics. The report lists the U.S. business as holding ISO 14001 environmental management and ISO 45001 occupational health and safety certifications. It also records 159 environmental certifications and labels across the company’s products in 2025, which the report frames as support for transparency and informed product selection.
These credentials and product labels sit alongside the company’s supply-chain work. In 2025, LX Hausys introduced a Supply Chain ESG Management Policy, assessed ESG risks for 372 suppliers and completed its first human rights impact assessment. Together, the measures extend the report’s scope beyond factory emissions and material innovation to supplier relationships and business practices.
CEO Roh JinSeo describes the company’s approach in the report as ongoing work: “Creating social value, building a sustainable ecosystem for shared growth, and driving innovation toward decarbonization are ongoing ESG activities that will continue to serve as the core values of LX Hausys’ management,” he said. “We will realize responsible growth in line with the global movement toward sustainability.”
Recognition and what to watch
LX Hausys was selected for the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook 2026 for the second consecutive year. The company ranked among the top 8% of businesses in the building materials industry and was the only Korean building materials company included in the Yearbook. It also maintained an overall A rating from the Korea Institute of Corporate Governance and Sustainability for the 10th consecutive year, and appeared in the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Korea Index for the 11th consecutive year.
The report’s most useful product signals are specific changes in formulation and material handling, paired with a quantified emissions reduction across the Korean sites it tracks. The next details that would make these claims easier to compare are the share of bio-based content in finished film and the scale of recycled-material use across product lines. For now, LX Hausys’s examples show where its stated sustainability work reaches the product itself: in coatings, recycled feedstock and the paper used to release a finished film.
